Set-up

Thomson TG585v7 control panel home page

To set-up the Thomson TG585v7 ADSL 2+ modem (your Be Box!), make sure it is connected, to your phone line and computer, as described in the Be Quick Start article. Then point your Browser to the Web address http://192.168.1.254 to display the Thomson modem's internal Home Page (see image right).

First time set-up

Note: These instructions differ from the photocopied instructions supplied with Be Box

If this is the first time you are setting up the modem (ie. you don't yet have an Internet connection!), from the Thomson TG585v7 control panel Home Page, in the menu on the left, click "Thomson Gateway". Below the information on the section "Thomson Gateway", is another section "Pick a task...". Click on the link "Set Up", to launch the "Welcome to the Thomson Gateway Easy Setup" wizard in a pop-up menu. Click "Next" to go to the "Service Selection" page.

Service Selection

  • Choose "Broadband - Static IP" if you have ordered a static IP addressing with your service
  • Choose "Broadband - Multi IP" if you have dynamic IP addressing.

Static IP addressing is currently available with BE Pro service. You can check whether you have it, (a) By checking your Account information at the Be Member Centre, (b) In the set-up notes sent with the Be Box.

Click next to go the next appropriate screen

Example configuration file (user.ini) for Dynamic IP on older firmware

Be Broadband – Multi IP address

There is no further information to enter of you are using the default Dynamic IP addressing (alo called Multi IP). Click Next to go to the "Start configuration ?" screen, and click Start to begin the configuration process. After a couple of minutes, a screen will appear confirming set-up; click the Finish button to close the configuration window. You are now ready to surf the Internet.

Be Broadband – static IP address

If you chose "Broadband - Static IP", enter

  1. Your Static IP address (as supplied) If you have lost the information - ask for it in a ticket.
  2. Subnet mask (255.255.252.0) (the penultimate triplet is not 255). The screen says that this may also be called the Network mask; Be instructions actually call it the Wan NetMask.
  3. Gateway IP address (as supplied)

Click Next to go to the "DNS Settings" screen.

DNS Settings

Enter the given Primary and Secondary IP address. If you wish to use the OpenDNS service or Google DNS, enter its IP addresses instead:

               Be-supplied DNS OpenDNS Google DNS
  Primary DNS: 87.194.255.155 208.67.222.222 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS: 87.194.255.154 208.67.220.220 8.8.4.4
