How to get the best from your connection

If you are new to Be* and having problems or just want to get the best from your connection here are some simple things you can do. In order that people here can help you, or when you raise a ticket for technical support, the best thing to do is:

Connect to the bt test socket, DO NOT use an extention lead to do this

Here is how:

[You will need to remove the two screws that hold the face plate to reveal the test socket.]

Connect your computer to the bebox via the ethernet cable.

After you have connected the Bebox to the test socket, get the stats from your bebox, you can do this by clicking on this link:

http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/dsl/dt/?ce=1&be=0&l0=1&l1=0

Then repeat the test after your bebox has been connected to the test socket for a 12 hour period and post both sets of stats in a new thread, and in any ticket for technical support.

Be* only provide 1 adsl filter, so you will need to purchase more for anything else that is plugged into those extention sockets.

ie. skybox, fax macine, answering machine, alarms, telephones, etc.

There is a known issue with Sky boxes causing disconnections and slow speeds. Some members have found double filtering of the Sky Box resolves most of the problems Or if you have the new type BT master socket you can fit a filtered face plate. Get your self a filtered face plate for your test socket.

See the link below.

Also click on the pdf file on this page for a how to explanation. As the bebox can be wall mounted you can find somewhere unobtrusive and connect this to the adsl output of the socket. Then get yourself one of the low loss cat 6 extention leads as shown in the link below, plug this into the bebox and run the cable to your computer.

You don't have to purchase the above from these suppliers, do an online search. This way you will get the same speed as at the test socket and also a very stable connection. It is true this will cost about £20 but it is a one of expense.

P.S. If you have a hard wired alarm connected to the same telephone line as your ADSL, make sure this is connected after the test socket as this will cause no end of problems if it is not correctly filtered.
